The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) is currently seeking applications to fill seven (7) positions; successful candidates will serve as members of the State Bilingual Advisory Council (SBAC). Council members are appointed to three-year terms by the secretary of education. The full council convenes four times a year, and working sub-council groups meet as needed between regular sessions.
One of the major roles of the SBAC is to advise the PED on matters and issues affecting English learners (ELs) and other students participating in the state Bilingual Multicultural Education and Title III Programs in New Mexico public schools.
We are requesting your assistance in nominating highly qualified and interested individuals, who will be committed to build on the council’s legacy and resolve to move New Mexico forward by working in tandem with the PED toward increasing academic achievement and improving educational outcomes for all of New Mexico’s children.
Please note that the PED will not be able to provide reimbursement for mileage or per diem for council members. Attached is a copy of the application form. Please do not hesitate to duplicate this letter and application form and share them with interested individuals.
Please send a completed application and supporting materials by Friday, January 29, 2016 via email to Dr. Pelayo at firstname.lastname@example.org or by mail to
